Last March 21, the local government unit (LGU) started the distribution of relief goods in Pangasinan that first took place in Alaminos City.

Headed by the 23-year-old Alaminos City Mayor Arth Bryan Celeste, his local government unit bought 730 kilos of vegetables and 10 tons of fruits from their city’s farmers and distributed it as relief goods to their constituents. Celeste is currently the youngest mayor in the Philippines and has been praised online for his good work.

In a post by Pangasinan’s LGU, there are many local vegetable growers and vendors affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine implemented as part of the preventive measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.

As a result, farmers cannot sell their produce so as a response to this problem, the LGU has bought over 100 tons of vegetables and fruits like watermelon and added it to the food packs to be given to the families around the city.

It was also stated in the post that the fruits and vegetables are rich in Vitamin C that will help boost everyone’s immune systems.
