Kidapawan City, North Cotabato through its City Agriculture Office established a “bagsakan area” where local farmers can display their fruits for retail and wholesale, especially during the annual “Kasadya sa Timpupo” Festival.
According to Joey Recimilla, the city’s tourism officer, Kasadya sa Timpupo or the fruit harvest festival is an expression of the local government to recognize the importance of local farmers in the area.
He added that the annual fruit festival is a venue for the local farmers to showcase their harvests to tourists and other visitors who wish to savor tropical fruits like rambutan, lanzones, mangosteen, marang, and durian at an affordable price.
“Our city government, through the leadership of Mayor Joseph Evangelista, is very supportive on our local fruit farmers. We encourage them to maintain their tropical fruit trees as their primary source of income,” Recimilla said.
Kasadya sa Timpupo is also expected to encourage other businesses to visit the city and invest during the harvest season.
“Timpupo” hails from a Cebuano term meaning “to pick up,” which translates to the local harvest of the usually abundant tropical fruits in the city during the months of July until August.
The festival will be held from August 14 to 18 in the City of Kidapawan, North Cotabato, Mindanao.
